Modern day princess cut diamond rings are born from over 500 years of refining the skills involved in diamond cutting. Princess cut diamonds use the structure of the raw diamond and the expertise of the cutter to maximise the shine and sparkle of diamond – known as “fire”. Princess cut diamonds have more “fire” than most diamond cuts.

It is like looking at 2 pyramids joined at the base. This is all because of the technical molecular structure of the diamond. When jewellers worked out how to cut diamonds they eventually found the most supreme cut – the princess.

Princess cut diamonds only appeared on the market around 35 years ago. They were the result of years of crafting, eventually attributed to Israel Itzkowitz. Before his work, diamonds were either round cut or square cut, following the immediate lines of the gems.

Itzkowitz combined the best features of both to come up with the princess cut.

Princess cut diamonds are in the top 2 of most popular cuts when choosing an engagement ring. White gold or platinum are favourites when it comes to bases, but individuality always wins in the end.

The main reason princess cut diamonds are becoming ever more popular is because the cut ensures minimal waste of the original stone, so the buyer gets  the most value per carat available on the market.
